The Hippocrates oath. partying in iceland

Today I signeed the Hippocrates oath today, it was a charming (not ) seremony in the office of my old medical school.
Yes now i am finally becoming a serious doctor, I bought some serious clothes and glasses in Buenos Aires, to look more adult. So now i will become a somewhat serious doctor.
I will let you know how it goes.

Last weekend i to dinner at Huldas house, I met some of my dear friends, Sólrún, Rúna, Sigga Hallgerður and Hulda. It was great and we had a blast.
Then we went out to party and it kind of sucked. It was loud, crowded, everybody stepped on my toas, and the men were very rude and one even threw bear over me. Where are you charming gentlemens of the world? (French, Brazilians and so on)
I actually got very depressed partying, it sank in that I am home and everything is the same. I know these first weeks will be hard, it is only normal.

Take care everybody

Iceland

When i flew in the weather was beautiful, the glaciers were visible, the ground was frozen, the lava, the mountains, my beautiful country. I do love it.

Meeting my family was great. first Lilja and Kiddi and their kids in Denmark and now my parents and brothers. My younger brother is a teenager now with long hair and black clothes.

Don´t Cry for Me Argentina - Goodbye South America

My last day in South America, i feel very emotional.

I have been with Gaetan yesterday and in the morning, and the rest of the day i will be with Maya and in the evening Paula, Marikena and Rotem and Maya.
Luckily today is very beautiful, the sun is shining and the city is very much alive. It is a good final day.
These days in BA have been great, the sun has been shining, the city is amazingly beautiful, dancing tango was unforgetable. Staying with Paula and Marikena and meeting Gaetan.
Seeing Maya again was the best.

It will be hard to leave tomorrow but nice to meet my family and dear old friends again.

What is the most memorable thing in south america? A lot of things actually.

Peru:the Macchu Pichu, the most amazing place on the earth, so powerful and beautiful.
Also being with Emma and Efrain and seeing the real Andes people, how they live and how nice and hospitalble they are. The potato i will always remember, that is when the woman gave me and Emma the only food she had, warm potatos, because in the Inca culture you take care of travelers, everybody belonged to the community. Amazing when people who have so little give what they have to you.

Bolivia: The most beautiful country in the world, the mountains, the jungle and the lakes. Also striking how very very poor they are. That is where i met Maya and we started our trip together.

Brazil: the most sensual, vibrant country on earth. The Brazilians know how to live, enjoy life to the fullest and never take it too seriously. The music and the dancing are the cournerstone of their culture. The were amazingly hospitable, Leo, Alesjandro and Tiago, Tarso and Juliana and Josely.

Argentina: the best food and wine, mmm. Also extremly hopspitable people like Paula and Marikena. Then there is the Tango and BA , the most fabulous city I have seen.

Ciao mis amigos, bueno genta, bonitas pais e una vida magnifica en la routa.
Grazias/obrigada para todo.

Mi birthday in Buenos Aires

Mi birthday was perfect, just perfect.
I spent the day walking around in 25 degrees! imagine that, and sitting in the city parks and enjoying the sun. I ate some good icecream and chocolate and had a good meal. then i visited Eva Perons museum. I also spoke to my family and friends. it was great.
Then in the evening there was a little preparty at marikenas place, me Paul(arg) Jon(Island) chloe and Lisa (engl) and Sharon (australia)
Then we went to a tango class, eat some dinner and danced (or tried to) all night tango! The great thing was that i got a lot of teachers since i am blonde! Very nice
Today is my second celebrations with Paula and my dear friend MAya (israel)that has joined me again, also rotem (israel) and Gaetan (france), so another night of tango in Buenos Aires.
Love you all

phonenumber

so i have not received any phone calls which means the number isnt correct. i asked some people and got 5 different versions of how to phone argentina
So there are several possibilites,
1) 0054-115-1541793074
2) 0054-11 - 1541793074
3)0054-911 -1541793074
4)0054-911- 41793074

My best guess is still the number 4) :0054-911-4179-3074 that is the number mom got through with yesterday

If all these fail the phone in the house works the number is 0054-11-45511679

Thursday, November 10, 2005

1) skilabod mamma, agust og Sigga 2) Mi casa es sue casa: hospitality 3) The absolute madness of the rich and powerful

1)
sigga hvert er skonumerid tigg
Mamma geturdu hringt 0054-115-1541793074
Hlakka til ad sja tig agust, er pakkin komin fra brasiliu?

2) One of the most amazing thing that i have learned on my travels here is the real meaning of hospitality. These words have been spoken to me couple of times, mi house is your house. The latinos really mean that when they say it. Now i am staying with Paula (an argentinian i knew for 2 days in brazil) in the house of her friend, Marikena. Marikena didnt know me but still invited me to her house where i am a guest for the next week. I feel very much at home and it is great to stay in an apartment after months of only having one bed as my place.

This is not the first time i enjoy this privelegde of staying with friends. I stayed in Dinas house in Peru where i felt like part of the family. I stayed in Leos house in Sao Paulo, Thigaos house in Brasilia, the house of Tarsos grandfather in Aracaju, the house of Josely´s in Curitibi and now in Marikenas hous.

I wish to say to all this people thank you and i am honored.

I hope one day i can return the hospitality either in Iceland or where ever i will live in the future

3) when i was trying on a leather jacket in a fancy streat in Buenos Aires (they have gorgoeus leather jackets here very very cheap around 7000 icelandic for one hand made, i bougjht 2), an older rich looking man around 70 years old commented that the jacket looked great on me. (even if i have put on 6 kilos traveling hulda og hallgerdur buist vid horku hlaupatorn eftir heimkomu tar sem tig verdid piskadar afram med mer)
Men here at all age give me complements all the time, it is in the latino culture, so i just laughed and said thank you. Then i continued trying on clothes. He then walked up to me again, said you are very beautiful, what are you doing here and bla bla bla. In the end he asked for my phone, i decided to lie and said i dont have one. Then he said "i am a diplomate for the middle east here, I would be happy if you phoned me" and gave me his card.
Men are incredible, he looks older then my grandfather. Disgusting.

Bariloche

Hello family and friends
Well apart from being very very cold Bariloche is heaven on earth, all the chocolate i can eat and the best icecream i have tasted and wonderful views. Then there are all these activities to do like hiking, rafting and whatever.
On the way from Mendoza i met an irish girl in the bus, Christina. We decided to go to the same hostel. Then we found out about the hiking routes here (since i havent moved my ass since i went to Brazil almost three months ago) and the next day we went to a 2 days hike. They didnt really tell us about the conditions. They said oh there is a shelter, it is around zero degress bla bla bla. So i helped Christina buy a basic equipment and she rented hiking shoes.
Off we went and it started with this beautiful views in an amazing walley between two mountains. We hiked on and suddenly we werent walking on a route but in a river. We walked for a while but then went back, fotunatly we met a guy who works in the shelter and he told us this was the route. So we hiked up the river for a while and took of our shoes couple of times. Then we continued and christinas feet start to hurt because of the bad shoes she borrowed. On we went since it was too late to turn back.
We hiked up the mountain, met a few people on the way down that told us about a really strong river we had to cross and 1 hour hike afterwards in the snow. And i didnt have my sandals to cross rivers with me.,...
We finally came to the river and it was very very very strong, too strong to cross barefoot. there was a rope to s upport us but still not enough support. So i decided that if we werent gonna drown we had to cross in our shoes, even if it ment one hour in snow with wet shoes. So we did and survived. Then there was a hard uphill hike in snow with wet shoes. After that we came to the shelter and had a great evening chatting.
The next morning we hiked up in the mountain in beautiful views and then started hiking down. When we came to the river i decided to cross barefood since it wasnt as strong and i didnt want to hike for 6 hours with wet shoes. After crossing it took couple of minutes to get blood back into the toes, very ´painful. Then we continued, it was a beautiful sunny day. After 6 hours hiking down we came to the road of starting point. this time of year there are no buses. So we started to walk into town. Christinas legs were really hurting at this time so we walked very slowly. Luckily a yellow 50 year old pickup truck stopped and a guy offered us lift into town(at least 1 1/2 hour walk away)
Then we got into Bariloche and in the evening had a azada, a argentinian barbeque. I drank a bi of red wine and went to bed.
the next day we cruised the chocolate stores and icecream stores in town. mmmmm Then we took a bus too look at hotel llao llao, the most famous (and snobbish) hotel in Argentina. In the evening it was party time for a while but then to sleep for a couple of hours. The reason for that? Rafting today! That is where i am off to now, with Angela(australia) Christina (irish) and Shirley (israel)
So now i am waiting for the guide to come and pick us up
Take care babys
I am coming home soon!

hola hola
I have now been in Mendoza for 4 days. This is a fabulous city and the parties have been wild. The first day i met a really nice woman from England, Zoe. She is also a doctor. The evenings we have spent doing what is normal in Argentina: eating a huge steak at 22 oclock in the evening, continuing for couple of hours. This goes with a nice red wine and parties afterwards. The second night i actually met a icelandic guy, Jón, he is traveling for couple of months too. We had a blast speaking in icelandic. I did a wine tasting tour in the wineyards and yesterday after 1 1/2 hours sleep i went to a day tour in the mountains, it was stunningly beautiful, reminded me a lot about Bolivians mountains. Today i am going to do sight seeing with a friend, Gaetan (french). Tonight i am leaving for a 18 hours bus journey to Bariloche. Bariloche is in Patagonia so it should be so beautiful and it is also the best producer of chocolate in Argentina. So instead of just eating steaks and drinking red wine i will also eat chocolate all the time. You can see that Argentina is not the right place to loose weight. The life of the traveler is difficult.
So take care my friends.
kisses Stella
